History of the practice
Birch Tree Foot and Ankle Specialists was founded by Dr. Randy Hartman and Dr. Daniel Lathrop in 1992 in Traverse City, Michigan. Drs. Hartman and Lathrop were two of the first surgically trained podiatric physicians in the Traverse City area. In 1999, they expanded the practice to a 2nd office in Manistee, Michigan after recognizing a need for foot and ankle care in the community there as well. Collectively, Drs. Hartman and Lathrop provided (number of) years of medical care to the Northern Michigan community.
In July of 2019, Dr. Lathrop retired, and he and Dr. Hartman transferred ownership of the practice to Dr. Jeffrey Weber. Drs. Weber and Hartman treat patients at both the Traverse City and Manistee locations. Dr. Weber maintains hospital and surgical privileges at Munson Medical Center and Copper Ridge Surgery Center.

Our clinics are equipped with both x-ray and ultrasound to aid in prompt diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions. We offer on-site, same day dispensal of orthotics (both custom and prefabricated), durable medical equipment such as protective walking boots, braces, and knee scooters so that patients do not have to make a trip to a medical supply store after their office visit.
